Denzil R. “Bob” Young, Sr.

ASHTABULA- Denzil Robert “Bob” Young, Sr. 85 was surrounded in love from his beloved family as he went home on Sunday, January 28, 2018.

The son of Thomas and Phoebe (Harmon) Young, Bob was born on March 16, 1932 in Zion Ridge WVA.

A veteran of the United States Army, Bob served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged after two years of services.

On April 20, 1961 Bob and Mabel Hayes were united in marriage, their fifty six years of love and devotion gave them many cherished memories. The times they shared with their children and granddaughter are treasures of the heart.

Bob was employed with the City of Ashtabula in the Forestry Division; he spent countless hours beautifying the city. A dedicated employee, Bob worked for the city for more than thirty years prior to retirement. Bob was never one to “retire” did landscaping projects for family and friends. He received great enjoyment in helping others.

A devoted outdoors man, Bob liked to fish and hunt in the quietness of nature. He also, was proud of his gardens and took great care of his yard and the surrounding area.

The most special times were those spent with his family; the satisfaction of knowing that his family was happy and healthy was all that Bob needed.

Bob will be remembered for his devotion to family, his love of his country and his wonderful work ethic, which he passed on to his children.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Mabel Young of Ashtabula; his daughter, Jeanette (Dan) Lister of Geneva and his son, Denzil R. “Bob” Young Jr. of Ashtabula; precious granddaughter, Phoebe Calaway of Ashtabula; Anna and Emily Forman, whom he treated as family; brother, Delmer ( Eurada )Young of Ripley, WVA; sisters- in-law, Evelina Young of Zion Ridge WVA and Lu Young of Parkersburg, WVA; many loving nieces and nephews as well as extended family and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Catherine Calaway on April 14, 2010; siblings, Dorothy Elizabeth Austin, Denver Albert Young and Thomas Joseph Young; and his parents, Thomas Foley Young and Phoebe Harmon Young.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, February 2, 2018 at the Zaback-Williams-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula, Ohio. Burial will be in Ridgeview Cemetery, Ashtabula, Ohio.

Calling hours will be observed from 6:00PM until 8:00PM on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at the Zaback-Williams-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula, Ohio.

If desired, contributions in Bob’s name may be made to the American Legion, Dewey-Howlett Post # 103, 1804 West 19th Street, Ashtabula, Ohio, 44004

The family would like to thank American Legion, Dewey-Howlett Post #103 for installing the handicap ramp for Bob. They appreciate the tender care given Bob from his caregivers, Jennia Williams and Michelle Stokley and the staff from Grace Hospice to allow him to complete his journey with dignity and grace.
