Obituary of Antonio T De Angelis, Sr.

ASHTABULA - Antonio T De Angelis, Sr., 88, passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Country Club Retirement Center. The son of Salvatore & Brigida (Sanelli) De Angelis, Antonio was born on September 27, 1929 in Cleveland. Antonio spent his formative years in Cleveland, later moving to the Ashtabula area, ending up in Plymouth, where he spent the remainder of his adult life, living next to the railroad tracks, and was affectionately known as �The Mayor of Carson Yard.� Antonio served in the Army in combat during the Korean War, and spoke proudly of his service. Recently, Antonio was honored by the Ashtabula Korean Church as a Hero of Korea. Antonio married Ruth Joanne Walker on September 19, 1959. Over the years, Antonio held many jobs. He did whatever was necessary to support his family � factory maintenance, truck driver, auto mechanic, and construction. When he wasn't working, Antonio�s passion was as a mechanical tinkerer. Over the years, he made all kinds of different contraptions to help with whatever he needed done. If there was a tool or device that he needed to get a job done, he usually made it himself. He was also a big fan of professional wrestling. For anyone who would listen, Antonio loved to tell stories from his younger days, and from his service during the war. Antonio is survived by sons Joseph (Vicky), Sam (Stacey), and Robert De Angelis (Debbie); grandchildren Antonio III, Adam, Laura, Amber, Adrianna, Bayleigh, Marissa, and Stepheny De Angelis; great grandson Benjamin Giddings; sisters Mary Montgomery and Barbara Sabelli. Antonio was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joanne, daughter Marie, son Antonio, Jr., sister Louise Aponte, and brothers Frank De Angelis and Aurelio De Angelis. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at First Covenant Church, 3300 Carpenter Road, Ashtabula, Ohio. Rev. Bruce Wyand, Pastor of First Covenant Church, will be officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens. Calling hours will be observed from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at the church.
