Obituary of Deborah Kay Hurst

Please share a memory of Deborah to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
ASHTABULA – Deborah Kay Hurst, 63, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at University Hospitals Geneva. The daughter of Joseph P. and Christene Pennington, Debbie was born on June 8, 1954 in Logan, WV. For many years Debbie worked as an EMT for Hawkins Ambulance Service a career she enjoyed. From there she went on to earn her LPN License from the Knoelder School of Nursing. She was a nurse's nurse; she loved her job and her patients. There were many days when she should have gone home, but she stayed to continue the care her patients needed. She considered her patients an extended part of her family. Debbie and LeRoy Hurst were married in 1994 and shared twenty four years of love and memories. They completed each other. Debbie was always eager to play a game of softball; for many years she played on a travel league for Spot Café as well as several Church League Teams. She was a fierce competitor. She also enjoyed reading, listening to music, watching crime movies and telling and writing stories. She had a talent for both. Debbie never met a "critter" she did not fall in love with. If she could she would have had a houseful. Debbie's greatest accomplishment was her family; she loved her sons, spoiled her grandchildren and enjoyed the company of her siblings. Debbie will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor; her spirit and zest for life and her love of family and friends. Debbie is survived by her beloved husband, Leroy Hurst; sons, Benjamin Reed Ford and Joseph Eugene Ford; grandchildren, Joseph David Ford and Lilah Christene Ford; siblings, Ann (David) Leake, Paul (Brenda) Penning ton, and Tanya Pennington; many loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews and extended family. Debbie's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to LeRoy's son and daughter-in-law, David and Tracy Hurst for their loving kindness shown to them during Debbie's illness. Debbie was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral Services will be at 4:00PM on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at the Zaback-Williams-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula, Ohio, 44004.
