Laurice M. Carter
GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Laurice Marie Carter, 92, formerly of Ashtabula passed away on April 12, 2018 at Addington Place where she had been an Assisted Living Resident for the past several years.
Born January 18, 1926 in Ashtabula, the daughter of Amos and Lucy (Strong) Taylor, she was a lifelong Ashtabula resident before moving to Grand Rapids 5 years ago to be close to her daughter.
A 1944 graduate of Ashtabula High School, she earned her degree in Education and Library Science from Kent State University in 1948. On December 28, 1957, she married the love of her life, Roy Carter and together they shared 52 years prior to his passing on January 1, 2009.
She started her career as a third grade teacher at the West Junior High School building, then served many years as a Librarian at the Ashtabula County District Library, and finally enjoyed the job of Bookkeeper for Grace Christian Academy.
She had been a member of the Harris Memorial Presbyterian Church and later the Berean Bible Church and enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint, gardening, bird watching, and reading.
Laurie was well known for her smile and gentle spirit.
She loved Ashtabula and was pleased to have been a descendant of some of the early settlers of the community.
Her survivors include her daughter, Nancy Carter of Grand Rapids, MI; her step-son, Jan Paul Carter of Santa Monica, CA; two step-grandchildren Ed Repasy and Kim (Joe) Rice of Columbus, Ohio; and one brother, Gordon (Marion) Taylor of Dayton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Ernest Carter, Jr.; her son, Christopher A. Carter on March 5, 2005; her step-daughter, Colleen Doing , Aug. 6, 2005; three sisters, Marian Casane, Kathryn Ford, and Vilette Battles; and her parents.
Calling hours will be from 6-8pm on Thursday April 19th and 10AM -11AM Friday, April 20th at the ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula.
A service will be held at 11 AM on April 20th at the ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula. Pastor David J. Adams of First Grace Gospel Church will officiate. Guests will be given an opportunity to share a memory during the service. Burial will be in Saybrook Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be considered for First Grace Gospel Church.
