Obituary of Mary T. Klepek

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary T. Klepek A daughter, a sister, a cousin, a wife, a sister-in-law, a mother, an aunt, a mother-in-law, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, a friend... Mary T. (Sullivan) Klepek entered into eternal rest on Monday, May 7, 2018, at the age of 85. Mary was born on December 10, 1932, to Anna (Quinn) and Francis Sullivan in Ashtabula, Ohio. She attended St. Joseph Elementary School where geography and bulletin boards were her favorite subject and pastime. Ms. Sullivan met the love of her life in elementary school, Mr. Benjamin Klepek and married him on February 27, 1954. Prior to marriage, Mary attended St. Alexis Nursing School in Cleveland, Ohio. Mary's nursing career was interrupted by raising five children: Mary Ellen (Joseph) Haggerty, Tom (Nancy) Klepek, Ben (Donna) Klepek, Judy (Michael) McMeekin and Kathy (Jeff) Nekic. In the late 1960's, Mary knew college tuitions were on the horizon and returned to nursing as one of her life passions was to help those in need. She worked at the Veterans Hospital of Cleveland for over 25 years. Following retirement, Mary decided her most important mission was to be actively involved in her twelve grandchildren's lives: Patrick (Katie) and Timothy Klepek, Ryan (Trisha), Brendan and Colin Haggerty, Maureen (Mark) Mendrek-Laske, Kyle (Emily) and Mary McMeekin, Tyler and Holly Klepek, Garrett and Matthew Nekic. G'MA Mary loved taking care of the grandchildren when parents were out-of-town, went to grandparent days at school, sporting events, singing concerts, band concerts, school plays and graduations. The enjoyment continued as she welcomed her new role as a great-grandmother to Jessica Klepek, Michael Mendrek-Laske, and Colton Haggerty. As Mary aged, the grandchildren often reached out and included G'MA in their lives. Mary taught them through example how to live life, give back and not take yourself too seriously. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Francis Sullivan; her husband Ben Klepek; son Tom Klepek; and brother Francis Sullivan. Mary is survived by her sister Ann (Sullivan) Connolly, traveling and telephone partner; she is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom she loved, and that love was mutual. Asbury Retirement Village was Mary's home for the last seventeen years. Her family wishes to thank all her friends from Diamond, Kindley and the staff of the fourth floor at the Wilson Health Care Center for their kindness and care. A celebration of Mary Klepek's life will be at Asbury Methodist Village/Guild Chapel, 301 Odendhal Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD. Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to the Asbury Benevolent Fund in memory of Mary T. Klepek, 5285 Westview Drive #200, Frederick, MD 21703. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 9, 208 at 1:00 Pm at the Chapel at St. Joseph Cemetery, W. 19th St., Ashtabula with Fr. David Bridling officiating.
