Gordon V. Wheeler ASHTABULA – Gordon Vernon Wheeler, 93, passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 while a resident of Carington Park. Gordon is the son of Samuel and Florence (Terrill) Wheeler and was born on February 13, 1925 in Ashtabula. He was a graduate of Ashtabula High School, class of 1943 and had remained a lifelong area resident. Gordon proudly served in the United States army during WW II. After his honorable discharge he returned to Ashtabula to raise his family. On May 22, 1943 Gordon and Thelma Anderson were united in marriage; their fifty seven years of mutual respect and love were to be admired. Gordon retired in 1983 from the Ashtabula Bow Socket of thirty seven years of loyal and dedicated service. Gordon enjoyed dancing, going to casinos, camping and traveling in his motor home and cheering for the Browns and Indians. A woodcarver of great skill; Gordon created lighthouses and many other beautiful pieces which he gave to family and friends. These creations are treasures of the heart. Gordon is survived by his close friend, companion and devoted caregiver, Addy Hesson; several grandchildren and great –great grandchildren; and son-in-law, Russell Brown. Gordon was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Anderson Wheeler in 2000; daughter, Carol Brown; two grandsons and one great- grandchild; siblings, Ivan, Fred, Hubert, Kenneth, Ruth, Elsie, and Bernice. His precious Pomeranian" Pookie" and his beloved feline companion" Mama Kitty", who will go with Gordon on his final journey. Graveside Services will at 1:30PM on Tuesday, July 24, 2018At Edgewood Cemetery. Military Honored will be rendered by American Legion, Dewey-Howlett Post #103, Ashtabula, Ohio. If desired contributions in Gordon's name may be made to Harbor Cat Rescue, P.O. Box 3083, Ashtabula, OH 44005, or the APL, 5970 Green Road, Ashtabula, Ohio, 44004 for Gordon's love of animals.
