Obituary of Harold Lurell Frye

DENMARK TWP - Harold Lurell Frye, 90, of South Denmark Road died Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at his home. He was born July 24, 1928 in Erie, PA, the son of Martha Frye and had lived in Ashtabula County most of his life. He attended Rock Creek High School and joined the US Army at the tail end of World War II earning a WWII Victory Medal and an Army Occupation Medal in Japan. Harold was a well-known workaholic having been a dairy farmer and the founder of Frye Sand and Gravel, the business now passed on to his sons. He was proud to have built his family home on the property where the business was located. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and music, playing the accordion and the guitar. He even once played in a polka band. His survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mary (Kirkendall) Frye, whom he married December 3, 1952; three children, Sherry (James) DiGiacomo of Ashtabula and David and Charlie (Dawn) Frye, both of Denmark Twp.; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; a half-brother, Melvin (Melvina) Beebe of Jefferson; half-sister, Bonnie Hannable of Beverly, MA; and two sisters, Ruth Hall of TX and Esther Forsberg of FL. He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Beebe and his son, Gene Frye. Private family services will be held.
