Betty M. Shears

ASHTABULA- Betty Marie Shears, 83, passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 while a resident of Ashtabula County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

The daughter of Thurmond F. and Reva M. (Slater) Adkins, Betty was born on April 15, 1935 in Nitro, West Virginia. She moved to the Ashtabula area in 1947 and was a graduate of Edgewood High School.

Betty was a member of Church of God of Prophecy in North Kingsville.

A member of TOPS, Betty enjoyed the many friendships she made; she was a volunteer for the 50-50 Barn which was the gift shop at Brown Memorial Hospital. She was a BINGO volunteer at the Ashtabula County Home, before becoming a resident. While a resident, she was on the Resident Council, both serving as President and Vice-President. Betty enjoyed being a member of the Council and participated in many lively meetings. She belonged to the cooking club and was a resident volunteer.

Betty will be remembered for the joy that she spread to others in volunteer work, her tenacity and faith. She loved her family with her whole being and they will never forget her sacrifices she made for them.

Betty is survived by her children, Robert Rice, Janice (John) Guckert, Kathy Morehead, Vicki Shears, Michael (Melanie) Shears, step-children, Alice Styir, Robert (Vivian) Shears, Cynthia(Gilbert) Garay, Linda Shears and David(Danielle) Shears; nineteen beloved grandchildren; and many precious great-grandchildren; siblings, Thurmond Adkins, Jr., and Robert Adkins , Sr, nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Shears whom she married in 1973 and he passed away in 2008, her daughter, Joyce Rice and her parents, Thurmond, Sr.  and Reva Adkins.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at 12 noon at the Zaback-Williams-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula, Ohio. Rev. Harry Shipley, Pastor, of Church of God of Prophecy officiating, burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, North Kingsville, Ohio.

Calling hours will be observed from 6:00PM until 8:00PM on Monday, August 27, 2018 at the Zaback-Williams- Ducro Funeral Home 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula, Ohio, 44004.
