Obituary of Marilyn Ann Baker

Please share a memory of Marilyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Marilyn Ann Baker, 86, passed away Friday, August 31, 2018 at her home.

She was born April 4, 1932 in Cortland, NY, the daughter of Ceil B. and Mabel (Witty) Osbeck.

She earned her Junior Accounting Diploma with Honors from Bryant and Stratton in Buffalo, NY in 1951 and then worked for Bryant and Stratton in their accounting department for 6 years.

On May 22, 1954, Marilyn married the love of her life in Hamburg, NY and together they shared 62 wonderful years of marriage prior to his passing.

For 35 years, she volunteered with the AARP Tax Aid Program and served as its coordinator for 10 years, helping countless people at tax time.

A member of Our Lady of Peace Parish (St. Joseph Church), she loved people and conversation, making fast friends with all she encountered. She always had a listening ear and a heart for service, shown with her volunteering at St. Joseph Finance Council, OSSHIP Counselor, with her nomination for Ashtabula Senior Citizen of the Year Award, and Medical Mutual’s Outstanding Senior Volunteer Award.  She was well known for her weekly baking treats that she shared with many.  She also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, stamping, making cards, and working in her beautiful flower garden where she cultivated her favorite pansies. But her favorite hobby of all was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they were truly the light of her life.

Her survivors include three children, Linda (Rick) Coblitz of Ashtabula, Robert Nelson Baker of Pueblo, CO, and John R. (Anne) Baker of Missoula, MT; four grandchildren, Valerie (Jake) Harchalk, Joseph (Jennifer) Coblitz, Scott (Stephanie) Coblitz, and Mikael Luke Baker; seven great-grandchildren, Clara, Johnny, Eryn, Grace, Levi, Benjamin, and Adam.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Baker on September 17, 2016; and her parents.
