Cathy R. Young-Betts

Cathy Renee Young-Betts, 59, of Ashtabula, passed away September 15, 2018 at South Pointe Hospital in Cleveland.

She was born July 12, 1959 in Ashtabula, the daughter of Clovis Miller and Mary Jean Young but was raised by her mother and step-father, L.C. Mathers. She graduated from Ashtabula High School in the Class of 1977.

She worked as an STNA at Madison Health Care and also worked with Debbie White's Cleaning Service.

Cathy was an amazing person with a compassionate heart for people. She loved God, her family and her children, but her grandchildren were her true treasures. She could clean like nobody's business and with a broom, mop, and a few supplies, she could turn a shack into a mansion. She never uttered the word "No" throughout her life and had a giving "Yes" spirit and a heart of gold no matter who you were. She opened her home to all in need and would give you her last nickel even if you had mistreated her. Her smile would light up a room and she loved to listen to R. Kelly.

Cathy is survived by her children, Shakinah (Delshawn Dansler) Mathers of Warren, Shafon (Cregg) Vaughn of Ashtabula, Alfonzo Young of Michigan, and Ralonz Pollard of Virginia; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her mother, Mary Jean Mathers of Ashtabula; and siblings, Patricia Ann Keyes of Nevada, Daric (Kim) Young of Arizona, Sharon (William) Butler and Tonya Mathers of Columbus, and Darlene Jones, Adrian (Brandi) Mathers, Bernette Platt, Jeanette Hull, Debbie Crockett, Denise Green, and Marcus Thomas, all of Ashtabula.

She was preceded in death by her husband Merle Betts in 2008; her brother, Clovis Miller, Jr.; her father; and her step-father, L.C. Mathers.

Funeral services will be 12 Noon Saturday, September 22, 2018 with a calling hour from 11-12 at New Hope Church of God in Christ, 4317 West Avenue, Ashtabula, Ohio 44004, with Pastor Emory Moore and Rev. Mitchell Jones, officiating.
