ASHTABULA – Steve Povlis, 94, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2018.

 

He was born April 15, 1924 in Cleveland, the son of Karpa and Yustina (Zuluback) Povlis and had been an Ashtabula resident most of his life.

 

After graduating from Jefferson High School, he entered the US Army and served during World War II as a mechanic before being honorably discharged. He worked many years as a mechanic for Childs Motors in Ashtabula before his retirement.

 

Steve loved to tinker with anything automotive related.  He also was somewhat of an inventor, fabricating things to solve problems.

 

His survivors include two sons, Joseph and Steven; and a brother, Andrew in Beavercreek, OH.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor (Pierce) Povlis in 1992; a son, Gary Povlis in 2014; a brother, John Povlis; a sister, Mary Povlis; and his parents.

 

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 from 11-12 with a service to follow at 12 noon at the Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula, Ohio 44004. Burial will follow at Eastlake Cemetery, North Kingsville with full military honors
