Obituary of Veronica Julia Caruso

Veronica J. Caruso Ashtabula - Veronica Julia Caruso. 91, died on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at Ashtabula County Medical Center. The daughter of Joseph and Julia (Seaman) Surbella, Veronica was born on May 11, 1927 in Ashtabula. She was a proud member of the 1946 class of Ashtabula High School and she was nominated "Queen of all Hearts." On June 12, 1948 Veronica married her high school sweetheart and best friend, Nickolas Caruso. Their seventy year marriage was one of mutual respect and love. Their time together created many memories that they shared with their family and friends. It is those memories that will sustain her beloved, Nick. Veronica was a woman with quite a work ethic; she was employed with, Montgomery Ward, Ashtabula Phone Company and Ashtabula Rubber. She was a poll worker for the Ashtabula County Election Board for many years. Over the years, Veronica and Nick made many trips on their motorcycle to Florida, Yosemite Park, Boston and other destinations. She was happy to be on those trips and enjoyed the many people they met along the way. She participated in several bowling leagues over the years and was very competitive. A wonderful cook and baker Sunday dinners were always special in the Caruso home; spaghetti and meatballs were the favorite of the family. She also baked and served traditional Hungarian desserts. Veronica is survived by her beloved husband, Nickolas Caruso; children, Beverly Eyajan, Deborah(David) Mead, Nick(Chris) Caruso, Jr., Jennifer Cook, Paulette Caruso Schossler, and Julia(Larry)Solden; loving grandchildren, Lindsey, Lydia, Mathew, Julia, Jennifer, Jesse, Jr., Amy, Amanda, Nick, III, and Sheila; her most precious great-grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews. Veronica was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jessica; her siblings, Joseph, Michael, and Robert Surbella, Lina Seaman; sons-in-law, Richard Eyajan and Dale Schossler; and her parents. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30PM on Monday, November 5, 2018 at the Zaback-Williams-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula, Ohio. Rev. David Bridling will preside. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, Ohio. Calling hours will be from 11:30AM until time of service at 1:30PM at the funeral home. Veronica's family asks that you make donations in her name to your favorite charity in lieu of flowers.
