Obituary of David Francis Silva

ASHTABULA – David Francis Silva, 77, passed away Friday, February 1, 2019 at Cleveland Clinic.

 

He was born October 1, 1941 in Ashtabula, the son of Francis and Margaret (Kitson) Silva and had been a lifelong Ashtabula resident.

 

A 1959 graduate of Ashtabula High School, he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Kent State University in 1966.

 

On July 26, 1969, he married the love of his life, Judy Boberg, and together they shared over 49 years together.

 

During the Vietnam War, he worked as a Military Field Services Representative for the American Red Cross.

 

Prior to his retirement on May 31, 2003, he worked for the Ashtabula County Common Pleas Court as the court administrator. He previously worked with the Ashtabula County Sheriff's Department giving him a total of almost 35 years serving Ashtabula County. He had also served as a local part-time pastor for the Leon and Harpersfield United Methodist Churches.

 

A longtime Mason, David was also a member of the Jefferson Conservation Club, 4-H, and the Sheffield Target Masters which he founded and an advisor for the Rhythm Riders. He was a Hunter Education Instructor for ODNR – Division of Wildlife and was a certified NRA instructor.

 

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding, reading, puzzles and spending time with his dog Odie. His grandchildren were his life. He loved to hunt and fish with Joe and play chess and fish with Anthony.

 

His survivors include his wife, Judy; one daughter, Cheryl Anastasia of Geneva; two grandchildren, Anthony and Joseph; one brother, Lynn T. (Jane) Silva of Ashtabula; his brother-in-law, Jim Meyer; five nieces and nephews, Michael (Angie) Meyer, Kelly (Jim) Paulchel, Kristine (Michael) Pindel, Robert Taylor, and Rebecca (Ryan) Schwotzer, and their children; as well as several cousins.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Calling hours will be held from 5-8PM on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at the Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula. Orion Lodge #353 F. & A.M. will conduct their memorial service at 7:45 PM

 

A service will be held 11 AM on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 4901 Main Avenue, Ashtabula. The Rev. Peter Nielsen, Rector will preside. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Plymouth Twp.
