Marilyn Annette Beckett, 79, of Ashtabula passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, February 8, 2019, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center. She was born August 3, 1939 in Akron, Ohio the daughter of the late William Kent and Mildred (Border) Thompson. Marilyn graduated from Akron North High School Class of 1957. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Kent State University and was a member of Delta Zeta. She married the love of her life Joseph Vern Beckett on August 4, 1962. Marilyn taught social studies and special education at West Junior High and Ashtabula High School for many years before her retirement in 2001. Mrs. Beckett also volunteered her time at the hospital for many years. She also enjoyed playing Bridge and Sudoku, was a member of the Bula Belles, was an avid Cleveland Indians fan, and loved to shop. Most of all she enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 56 years Joseph; daughter Laura (Randall) Beckett of Virginia; sons, Kent (Raquel) Beckett of Maryland, and Mark Beckett of Ashtabula; and sister, Janis (Max) Lehman. Marilyn was preceded in death by her brother, William "Bill" Thompson; and her parents. A Celebration of Marilyn's life will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2019 from 1pm to 4pm at the family home. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society. Ducro Funeral Services and Crematory, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, is handling arrangements.
