Obituary of John Thomas Baron
John Thomas Baron, 89, of Ashtabula, Ohio, passed away on March 12, 2019, surrounded by family.
He was born to parents John and Emma (Martov) Baron on October 19, 1929, in Cleveland, Ohio. John graduated from Ashtabula High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University. In 1956, he married Elizabeth (Libby) McCarthy, the love of his life. John managed data processing systems for Ashtabula City schools. From 1977 until retiring in 1992, John was the treasurer for public school systems in Madison and Warrensville Heights.
John had a love of sports and participated in many, passing that love on to his children. He was an avid Cleveland and Ohio State sports fan and enthusiastic if frustrated golfer. He enjoyed games of all kinds, walking, jogging, cooking and just being with family and friends. After retiring to Fort Myers, Florida, he remained active in tennis, volleyball, bike-riding and playing cards. John was a very social person who would stop and talk to anyone – he never met a stranger. He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish.
He is survived by his beloved wife Libby, his children, Mike (Sherry) Baron of Tulum, Mexico, Cathy (Steve) Lash of Sugarcreek, Ohio, Bill Baron of Ashtabula, Joan (Rob) Waddle of Bowling Green, Ohio, Mary (Jeff) Patzer of Spring Creek, NV, Patty (Eric) Parks of Aiken, SC, and John (Neza) Baron of Burnsville, MN; his brothers James (Maureen) Baron of Peabody, MA, and Kenneth Baron of Fairlawn, Ohio; twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
