Lena  M.  “Penny“ Gething

AUSTINBURG- Lena Maria “Penny”  Gething, 61, completed her earthly journey on Sunday, April 7, 2019; surrounded in love by her family.

The daughter of Arnold and Marjorie (Davis) McFarland, Lena was born on August 6, 1957 in Bedford, Ohio. She received her Associates Degree in Business Administration from Lakeland Community College.

Lena was the Human Resource Assistant for COE Manufacturing for ten years. She enjoyed her job and interacting with the employees on daily basis. It was her nature to be helpful and her job gave her the ability to help whenever she could.

On July 4, 1987, Lena and Robert Gething were united in marriage. What a wonderful and exciting thirty one years they were blessed to share. Their love for each other was evident and their many trips gave them memories that will last a lifetime.

Lena had happy feet and she was always ready to travel. She and Bob took many trips on the motorcycle and each trip ended with a visit to lighthouses. An avid lighthouse collector, Lena never missed a chance to purchase one as a memento of the wonderful times she and Bob had traveling. Her Boston Terriers, Sassy and Blue held a special place in her heart.

Lena and Bob are members of American Legion Post #103 Motorcycle group. They traveled throughout the state of Ohio and had a wonderful time with the other members of the group.

Lena is survived by her husband, Robert Gething; children. Clyde McFarland, Shannon (Lisa) Gaines, Chance(Tricia) Gaines and Renee Gething; grandchildren, Jessica, Anthony, Trevor, Amelia, Mary, Chance II, Emma and Miranda; siblings, “Skip” Boher, Marsha Karam, Calvin McFarland, Deborah Susserman, Harry McFarland, Becky Rankin and Dolores Trobenter; many loving nieces and nephews.

Lena was preceded in death by her parents.

Calling hours will be from 3:00PM until 8:00PM on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at the Zaback-Williams-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula, Ohio. With services to follow at 8:00PM at the funeral home.
