Obituary of Leonard Edwin Whitacre

Ashtabula- Leonard E. Whitacre, 81, of Ashtabula, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2019 at the Cleveland Clinic.

Leonard was born March 13, 1938 in Apollo, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Roy E. and Sara Jane (Whitlinger) Whitacre.

On Septemer 14, 1963 he married the love of his life, Emily Lynne Landreth in Ashtabula, Ohio. They had four wonderful children, Larry, Veronica (Ronni), Donald, and Alan.

He worked as a maintenance supervisor at RMI for 25 years, retiring in 1994. Leonard was an active member of his community. He was a past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles as well as a board member at the Ashtabula Senior Center.

In his spare time, he enjoyed riding motorcycles and racing cars at Thompson Raceway. Other favorite pass times included playing Pinnacle with his friends at the senior center, camping, and building and collecting model trains.

Leonard is survived by his children Veronica (Ronni) Charles of Jefferson and Alan Whitacre of Highland Heights, Ohio; siblings, David Whitacre of Alabama and Nancy Mitcham of North Kingsville; grandchildren, Rachel Whitacre, Daniel (Marlana) and Mark Jones, Anthony, Ericka, and Hannah Whitacre; great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Eliot, Michael, Connor, Emma and Anthony.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Emily; his sons, Larry and Donald A. Whitacre; brother Robert Whitacre and his parents.

Memorial Contributions may be made in Leonard's name to the Ashtabula Senior Center, 4148 Main Ave Ashtabula OH United States 44004.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 12, 2019 at 11A.M. in the chapel at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, 3140 East Center Road, North Kingsville, Ohio with burial to follow.
