David N. Scharnberg

ASHTABULA- David Neal Scharnberg, 90, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 3, 2019.

The son of Louis and Marjorie (Hovis) Scharnberg, David was born on October 31, 1928 in Ashtabula. Every year David celebrated his birthday with great joy with his family and friends.

David served in the United States Air Force for twenty years, retiring as a Staff Sergeant.  After his service to his country, David worked as a truck driver for twenty years retiring from the Teamsters Union. David never really retired; he always kept busy helping others.

Motorcycle racing was a passion for David, he loved going to Mid-Ohio Race Course to watch them speeding around the track. He was an avid car buff; he like all makes and models; commenting on the attributes that made one car better than the other. A good game of football was always a welcome pastime; cheering for his team and remarking how the referees could use a new pair of glasses kept the game interesting.

David had a wonderful sense of humor and shared his ability to tell stories with anyone he met. He loved being with his family and friends; he spoiled his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren with love and affection.

David is survived by his son, Rickey B. Scharnberg; his companion and friend of seven years, Iola Lawrence; five granddaughters, Shelly (David) Whitaker, Kim (Daryl) Reichert, Karen (Daryl) Games, Katherine (Kevin) Kinnear, and Donna (Jeff) Lucas; nine great grandchildren and three great-great- grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his wife of forty-nine years, Dovie Jean Scharnberg in 2007; daughter-in-law Deborah K. Scharnberg in 2006; grandson, David Danalchak; and his brother, Lou Scharnberg; and his parents.

It was at David’s request no public services be observed.

As you remember David, remember his famous quote of “Let’s try this”!
