Please share a memory of Lawrence to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Lawrence Edward Meier, 70, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 22, 2019.

The son of Edward Charles and Rita Helen (Ranker) Meier, Larry was born on July 6, 1948, in Pittsburgh, Pa.  Although Larry left Pittsburgh, he remained a die-hard Steelers fan.

Larry was employed with Children's Services of Ashtabula in the Maintenance Department for fifteen years. He also worked at Elkem Metals.

He earned two Associate Degrees one of which was in Social Work.

Betsy Stewart and Larry were married on July 17, 1993, and their journey of love and cherished memories began.

The football rivalry between the Steelers and the Browns became competitive and fun each teasing the other.   Larry was a man of many talents, interests, and hobbies.   He played softball for the East Ashtabula Club.  Larry coached soccer and was an Indian Guide leader at the YMCA.  He raced stock cars in Pittsburgh, Painesville, and at Raceway 7.  In his younger years he was a Golden Gloves boxer, with his uncle Paul as his coach.  Larry enjoyed listening to Blues music, watching wrestling, and reading Sci-Fi and Western novels.  He played the upright bass in the orchestra during his high school years and was a self taught keyboard and guitar player later in life.  Larry loved to go fishing, any day was a good day when you could drop a line and wait for a fish to take the bait.

Larry’s greatest accomplishment was his family.  He was a wonderful Husband, Dad and Grandpa, he spoiled all of them with love and affection.  He showed them his love daily and they returned his love equally.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife of twenty-five years, Betsy Meier; children, Chris (Loren) Stevens, Lawrence Edward Meier, Jr. and Laura Kathleen (Jeremy Mason) Meier; grandchildren, Trinity Eileen Stevens, Luke Edward Stevens, Atticus Martin and Sophia Gonzalez; brother-in-law, Bill Roberts and his niece, Heather Roberts; mother-in-law, Clarice Stewart and the Stewart Family.

Larry was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Roberts in 2016; and his parents.
