Obituary of Carrie Pearl Thompson

Carrie Pearl Shields Thompson, 79, of Ashtabula, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019 with her loving family by her side at Ashtabula County Medical Center.

Carrie was born May 13, 1940 in Louisville, Mississippi. She was the daughter of Walter and Laura (Jefferson) Shields.

Carrie was a mother to many people. She could always find the good in everyone she met. Cooking was one of her favorite things to do, especially cooking fried chicken to feed the whole neighborhood. She would listen to Sam Cook and Johnny Taylor for hours, they brought her so much joy.

Carrie is survived by five children, James (Christina) Thompson of Ashtabula, Darlene Thompson of Ashtabula, Becky Thompson of Ashtabula, Ruby Thompson of Ashtabula and Carol Thompson of Philadelphia; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Thompson; God daughter, Jeanette Talley Coleman; sisters, Irene Shields Hunt of Louisville, Mississippi and Viola Shields Hill of St. Louis Illinois; 26 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Icy Lee (Hart) Thompson; son, Melvin Thompson; her parents; granddaughters, Khaleesi Thompsonand Tracie Ann Mann; brothers, Nathaniel Shields, Robert Shields, William Shields, Walter Shields and Albert Shields.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 1 P.M. at G.O. Ministries, 3703 Station Avenue, Ashtabula. Pastor Samuel Richardson of Central Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. Family and friends are welcome to a time of food and fellowship following the service.
