Obituary of Douglas A. Harper

Douglas A. Harper, 68, passed away on June 30, 2019.  He was born on June 9, 1951 to Clair and Frances (Montgomery) Harper.

  When he was young, he was in Boy Scouts and  he enjoyed hunting, fishing, track and field, and football.  Douglas also helped with “Harper’s Roast Beef” the family concession stand.

  He graduated in 1969 from Ashtabula High School. He also graduated from Cape Fear Technical Institute in North Carolina for Aquatics, and Hocking College in Athens, Ohio for Land Survey.

  Douglas worked at Sea World, and as a Park Ranger at Pymatuning State Park. He was owner/ designer for Harper Glass Works, stained glass company for thirty years.

  He restored from scratch a 1934 International truck and was in car/truck shows in North east Ohio and Pennsylvainia.  He was President of the North East Ohio chapter of the American Truck Historical Society in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.

  Douglas was member of the Ashtabula County Antique Engine Club, Ashtabula Coin Club.

  He loved to garden and watch everything grow.  He was a very kind father/Father-in-law, and Grandfather.  Douglas was always proud of his family.

  He is survived by daughter, Meghan (Jeffrey) Stevenson of Sheffield; grandsons, Cody and Riley Stevenson; brothers, William of Florida, Barry (Martha) of Ashtabula, and Robert (Jeannie) of Texas; Godson/Nephew, BJ Harper of Athens, Ohio; nephews, Will Harper of Georgia, and Alex Harper of Texas; niece, Erica Shenefield of Columbus; and numerous cousins.

  Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, and nieces, Renee and Sarah Harper.

  A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2019 from 3:00-5:00 PM at the American Legion Post #103 on Carpenter Road in Ashtabula.
