Obituary of Hubert E. Burkhart

   Hubert E. Burkhart, 92, passed away on July 27, 2019.   He was born on October 4, 1926 to William K. and Hallie (Wolfcale) Burkhart.

   He was a veteran having served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

   Hubert retired from the United States Post Office after working over 25 years at the Ashtabula location as a window clerk.

   He was active in the Free and Accepted Masons for over 70 years where he was a member of the Knights of York Cross of Honor and was invited into Priory, Knight Templar Cross of Honor, life member of Relief Lodge #284, Pierpont, Jefferson Chapter #141, and Conneaut Concil #40.  Hubert was also a lifelong member and Head Usher at the First United Methodist Church of Ashtabula.

   He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Dorothy (Slaybaugh); daughter, Diane Gerlach; sisters, Donna Kray and Wanda Hodges; and brother, Raeburn Burkhart.

   Hubert is survived by sons, William (Terri) Burkhart of North Carolina and John Burkhart of Ashtabula; daughters, Mary Beth (Randy) Swedenborg of Ashtabula and Tana (Howard) Humphrey of Ashtabula; son-in-law, John Gerlach of Cleveland; sister, Carol Duva of Florida; companion, Betty Ghiz of Jefferson; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

   Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 2, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church, 4506 Elm Ave. Ashtabula at 11:00 AM.  Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the church. Masonic services will be held at 8:00 PM.   Burial will take place in Saybrook Cemetery.
