ASHTABULA- Carolyn Jane Mackey, 85, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2019 while a patient at Hillcrest Hospital.

The daughter of Clarence and Helen (Shamp) Horst, Carolyn was born on July 15, 1934 in Ashtabula and had remained a lifelong resident.

Carolyn was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.

As a young woman, Carolyn began her career at the local Social Security office; she transitioned to being the Associate Director of Residential Services and the Administrative Secretary of Happy Hearts School and retired as a bookkeeper in Chardon, Ohio. She was a talented and gifted person with a vibrant personality and enjoyed all those she met on her life’s journey.

Carolyn and Harold Mackey were united in marriage on August 30, 1952 and had just celebrated their sixty-seventh wedding anniversary. Their marriage was one of mutual admiration and love.

Carolyn was a woman of many interests; she was a member of the Ashtabula YMCA, loved to travel and was ready to go on an adventure at any time, playing a good round of golf and eating with family and friends was always enjoyable.

Carolyn will be remembered as a wonderful, daughter, sister, wife, mom, grandma, great grandma and friend.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, Harold Mackey of Ashtabula; children, Gail Mackey of Ashtabula, Mindy Young of Kingsville, Betsy (George) Shields of Seattle, Washington and Michael Mackey, also of Ashtabula; grandchildren, Shannon (Bob) Ellison, Holly Barnum, Aaron (Johanna) Mackey, Craig Barnum; great grandchild, Jordyn Adams; loving nieces and nephews.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Jim Young; siblings, Dick, Jack and Carl Horst and her parents.

Memorial Services will be held at 6:00PM on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Ducro Funeral Services, 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula, Ohio.

Visitation will be observed from 4PM until time of service at 6 PM at the funeral home.
