Tonya “Shorty” Chance

ASHTABULA- Tonya “Shorty” Chance passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 while in the care of David Simpson Hospice House.

Born on September 4, 1972, the daughter of Harvey Lee, and Rochelle Loftus in Houston, Texas. 

Shorty did not have a job, she had a passion; a passion to serve and care for people. These led to her becoming an EMT and then further her studies and become a Paramedic. She trained many new medical technicians and was a phenomenal teacher. She attended a technical program for her EMT-B and went through University Hospitals Paramedic Program for her EMT-Paramedic before starting college at Kent State University. Shorty was employed with Community Care Ambulance from 1999-2017, twenty years, and Tri-County Ambulance for a year.

She loved motorcycles and owned several over the years. She loved the water and could be found lounging in the pool on her days off. She also enjoyed crocheting, painting, and playing Clash of Clans. 

Her house was always open for a cup of coffee at any time for friends, strangers, or lost souls. She was compassionate, caring, and truly a Paramedics Paramedic.

Shorty is survived by her children Korey, Mark, and Emma as well as her partner of sixteen years Donny. 

Shorty had fought a courageous battle with cancer for several years. Although she is not with us in person; her spirit lives on.

Visitation from 11:00AM until 1:00PM on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at the Zaback-Williams-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula, Ohio, 44004.
