Obituary of Dolly Jane Waddle
Please share a memory of Dolly to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dolly Jane Waddle, 83, of Ashtabula, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, December 25, 2019 in Ashtabula.
She was born November 22, 1936 in Conneaut, and was the daughter of the late Marvin James and Emma Susan (Sabo) Kennedy. She graduated from Conneaut High School in 1954, and then went on to earn a Nursing Diploma at St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland in 1957. Dolly married Robert Waddle, the love of her life, on October 5, 1957.
Mrs. Waddle was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and caregiver. Most of her nursing career (26 years) was served at Ashtabula General Hospital. Dolly was proud to be a part of the nursing union negotiating team efforts that resulted in better training and education for the nursing staff. She also worked as the Director of Nursing at Country Club Retirement Center at the end of her career.
Dolly lived for her family and was an avid supporter of their activities. In her younger years, she was active in the Jaycees with Bob and served many years in the Buckeye Band Boosters. Later in life, she enjoyed being part of the Red Hat Ladies in Florida and helping with activities at the Lake Region Boat Club. She was fun-spirited and loved to entertain, purchase and create gifts for family, and make sure that everyone had everything they needed (especially something cold to drink). She and Bob also loved to travel across the country to see family and friends in their motor home.
She is survived by Robert E. Waddle, her loving husband of 62 years; children, Deborah (Rick) Loomer of Charlotte, NC, Bob (Joan) Waddle of Bowling Green, OH, and Lisa (Craig) Bean of Waterford, PA; grandchildren, Kasey Loomer, Diana Loomer, Robert E. Waddle II, John Waddle, Chelsea (Anthony) Kapasakis, and Lindsay (Mike) Hall; and her precious great-grandson, Cole Roy Kapasakis.
Dolly was preceded in death by her parents.
Services and celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
