Margarete (Lytle) McNatt
Boston, Mass- Margarete Mary McNatt, 95, died December 21, 2019 at Massachusetts General Hospital. Margarete was born March 4, 1924 at the home of her grandparents, Anna and Guy True Hastings of Ashtabula. She is the daughter of Katherine Mary Hastings and George Dewey Lytle.
Peggy played the saxophone in the school stage band, as well as her grandpa’s VFW polka band. She was a Girls Officer, graduating from Edgewood High School class of 1942.
On August 19, 1943 Margarete and Lawrence Earl Emery, son of Lola Mae (Doolittle) and James Henry Emery, were united in marriage. During their seventeen years of marriage their lives held many adventures.
Peggy worked at Abbott Labs in Waukegan, IL while Larry was stationed at Great Lakes Naval Station. Upon Larry’s discharge, the family returned to Ashtabula where Larry was a Chemist and Peggy was privileged to be a full time homemaker.
The family moved to Benton Harbor, MI for two years and then to Marion, IN (19 years) due to job opportunities. While in Indiana, Peggy was active in Girl/Cub/Boy Scout leadership, PTA, Sunday school teacher, Altar Guild, and American Legion Women's Auxiliary. After Larry’s passing in October 1960, she worked as a Secretary and Day Care Assistant Teacher.
Fortunate to find love once again, Peggy married Charles Ralph McNatt May 1, 1965. They relocated to Martin, TN in 1969 (26 years). She worked as a Secretary, in church day care, and ran a home day care program. She developed a passion for genealogy that led to countless research hours in libraries, cemeteries, and historical road trips.
In 1995 Peggy return to Ashtabula County and resided in Jefferson. Recently, she began spending winters with Skip and his family in New Hampshire, summers with Joe and his family in Georgia/Illinois.
Margarete is survived by her sons; Lawrence Earl Emery (Clenna), Joseph William Emery (Marie); granddaughters Michele Frazier (Neil Plats), Tia Brigitta Emery (Scott Barton), Margaret JoAnn Kerr-Emery (Aaron Trimble); great granddaughter Tiana Emery Barton; grandsons Lawrence Eric Emery (Becky), Alex William Emery; great grandsons Joshua Barton, Zachary Emery, Jason Barton, Chase Plats, Evan Emery, Michael Emery, Baby Trimble.
