Obituary of Howard Richard Cosner

GEORGETOWN, TX – Howard Richard Cosner, 87, formerly of Mill Street, Kingsville passed away on May 15, 2020 at the home of his daughter in Georgetown, TX. He was born June 26, 1932 in Elizabeth, PA, the son of David Ray and Leona Alice (VanKirk) Cosner and had been a Kingsville resident most of his life before moving to Texas in 2015 to be closer to his children. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean Conflict before being honorably discharged in 1954. Prior to his retirement as shipping coordinator in 1988, he worked over 38 years for Union Carbide. He also served on the board for their credit union which later became Lakeview Federal Credit Union for 48 years, 46 as Treasurer. A member of the Kingsville First Baptist Church for over 50 years, he was also a member of the Orion Lodge #353, F.& A.M. since 1967 as well as Eastern Star Chapter #12. Howard also served his community as Kingsville Township Trustee. An avid woodworker, he also enjoyed gardening and canning, but most of all treasured the time he shared with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia (Lanham), whom he married September 10, 1954; two children, daughter Darlene (Mike) Swaney of Georgetown, TX and son Donald (Chris) Cosner of Austin, TX; three grandchildren, Michael Swaney, Kimberly Montague, and Dylan Cosner, all of Texas; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother Marie Cosner, his brother Gilbert, infant sister Darlene, and grandson David Ray Cosner. A private burial will be conducted in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, North Kingsville. The family will host a memorial service locally at a later date.
