Obituary of Thomas Robert Daye, Sr.

Thomas R. Daye, Sr. ASHTABULA-Thomas Robert Daye, Sr. 61 passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 while a patient at Hillcrest Hospital. The son of John and Pearl (Griffin) Daye, Tom was born on August 15, 1958 in Lake Wales, Florida. Tom and Charlene Hall were united in marriage on August 1, 1979 in Ashtabula. For nearly forty one years, Tom and Charlene were partners in life. They loved, laughed and shared many experiences which are now cherished memories. Tom was a Master Certified Auto Technician and the owner of Tom’s Automotive on East Center Street in Ashtabula. He took great pride in his ability to repair cars and trucks. He could fix or build anything and usually make it better than new. He was not afraid to work and instilled his work ethic with his children and grandchildren. Some might say Tom was a wise guy and he was. He enjoyed making people laugh with his unique sense of humor. Tom enjoyed his family and nothing made him happier than sitting on his back porch swing and watching his grandchildren play in the yard. For all of his gruffness, Tom had a tender heart for children and donated to St. Jude Hospital to help the helpless. Tom is survived by his loving wife Charlene Daye; children, Thomas and Mindy Daye, Jr., Christopher Daye, Glenda and John Peterson, Anna and Ray Phelps, Jon Bruner whom he loved as a son; sixteen beloved grandchildren and six very special great grandchildren; siblings, Terry Daye, Anne and Glen Stone, Sandy Daye, David Daye and Bowman Daye; numerous nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his sister, Dinah Roden and his parents. Calling hours will be held from 5PM to 7PM on Monday, June 29, 2020 at Ducro Funeral Home at 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula, Ohio. Burial will be in Silver Hills Cemetery, Frostproof Florida.
