Obituary of Sandra Ann Smith

ASHTABULA - Sandra Ann (Jacobs) Smith, 82, of Ashtabula went home to be with her Lord and her husband George on Sunday, August 23, 2020 at Country Club Retirement Center, eight months to the day of his passing. She was born May 5, 1938, in Conneaut, Ohio the daughter of the late George and Rosamond (Davis) Jacobs. Sandy graduated from Conneaut High School. She married the love of her life George W. Smith on November 10, 1956. Sandy worked for many years as a medical secretary for various doctors including, Dr. Picard, Dr. Veroni, Dr. Ramachandran, Dr. Cox, and most recently with Dr. A.S. Lee before her retirement. Sandy was also a co-owner in “Take One Video” for five years. She was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and the Elks Club. She enjoyed yard work and gardening despite not having a “Green Thumb”, watching and feeding the birds, going to garage sales, enjoying time spent at the lake and shopping. She liked watching baseball with her husband, and baking and cooking for her family and friends, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her four children, Eric “Ric” (Suzy) Smith of Ashtabula, Shelley (Dan) Phelps of Bellevue, NE, Amy Burnham of Ashtabula, and Jill Bowers of Conneaut; sister, Bonnie L. Picard of Ashtabula; brother, George (JoAnne) Jacobs of Georgia; 10 grandchildren who affectionately called her Nana or Grandma Sandy, twins Jeremy (Juliene) and Jason (Penny) Smith, Cara, Josh (Jess) and Nic (Kassi) Phelps, Cassandra and Caitlyn Burnham, and Dylan, Tyler and Addison Bowers; 10 great-grandchildren, William, Matt, Abbey, Emma, Olivia, Emily, JJ, Kaiden, Rowen, Rylan, Ellie and Elliana who is due to be born in January; and several nieces and nephews. Sandy was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, George in 2019; and her parents. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 28, 2020 at 1 pm at Ducro Funeral Services, 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula, Ohio 44004, with Rev. Ryan Nevil, and Pastor Anthony Wiggins, officiating. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 12 pm until the time of service at 1pm.
