Obituary of Joann S. Coach

Joann S. Coach, of Jefferson passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at the Jefferson Healthcare Center. On February 14, 1992, she was married to John E. Ekensten, Jr. who passed in 2009. Born November 3, 1933 in Ashtabula County, she was daughter of the late William and Pearl (Mills) Coach and graduated from Ashtabula High in 1951. Strong in her faith, Joann attended Saybrook United Methodist Church her whole life. Joann was full of life and loved to travel. She lived in Australia and the Philippines but always called Saybrook her home. Before retirement, for many years she worked at Sears and Big Lots in retail up until 5 years ago. She was little but had a mighty personality. Proven to be a tomboy, it was hard to keep up with her. A love for sports, Joann was a big fan of watching the Indians and Denver Broncos, favoring John Elway. Joann is survived by her brother, James W. Coach (wife, Kathy); an aunt to Colleen Jeffers (husband, Martin), Karen, Mark and Steven Coach; a great aunt to 9 and a great-great aunt to 13. Her family commented that she was an aunt to many more. In addition to her parents and her husband, Joann was preceded in death by her brother, William J. Coach, Jr. Inurnment will take place at Saybrook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Bella Care, 1933 OH-45, Austinburg, Oh 44010.
