Richard Eugene Fitzer, 67, passed away after a lengthy illness on October 19, 2020.
He was born on August 20, 1953 in Ashtabula to John O. and Ella (Balint) Fitzer. Richard was a 1971 graduate of Ashtabula High School. He lived for many years in Columbus, Ohio, where he worked as a truck driver and salesman for Columbus Oil Company, before returning to Ashtabula.
Richard was a car fanatic. He enjoyed everything about cars, he also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was known to be quite the” character”. Richard had a heart of gold and was always there to help.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, John “Butch “ Fitzer.
Richard is survived by his brother, Gerald Fitzer of Freezeburg, Ohio; his sisters, Patricia (Glen) Newman of Daphne, Alabama, Nancy Snyder of Ashtabula, and Elizabeth “Barbara” Ocean of Texas; longtime companion, Judy Cassidy; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services for family only will be on Friday, October 23, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, Ohio. Please practice Covid safety procedures by wearing a mask to the service.
