William Arnold Coon, 93, of Ashtabula passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, November 7, 2020. He was born October 24, 1927 in Mosiertown, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Chester and Erba Gertrude (Cole) Coon. Arnold graduated from Saegertown High School Class of 1945. After graduation, he honorably served in the United States Army during World War II, occupation. He married the love of his life Evelyn Lewis on December 8, 1951. They moved from Pennsylvania to Ohio in 1959 where they built their home and raised three sons. Arnold worked for many years as a process operator at Millennium before his retirement in 1992. Mr. Coon attended several churches but made his home at North Kingsville Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. He was a member of the American Legion and served for many years on the honor guard team for the American Legion Neal Post #743. Arnold was a quiet man, one of faith and strength. He always had words of encouragement. He loved to travel to Florida with Evelyn, where they spent their winters. He loved baseball, gardening, playing cards, crossword puzzles and loved a good Jeopardy Show. He especially loved visits from his granddaughters. Arnold is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn in 2012; sons, William A. Coon Jr., and Edward Coon; brothers, George, Chester Jr., Lawrence, and Ronald Coon; sisters, Irene Dillaman, Erba June Coon, Viola Rudy, Sara York, Betty Beckman, Shirley Layman, and Judith Coon. He is survived by his son, David (Lisa) Coon of North Kingsville; grandchildren, Michelle Coon of Oregon, Laura Coon of Washington, and Hannah, and Jenna Coon, both of North Kingsville; brothers, Raymond (Flo) Coon, and Melvin (Terri) Coon; sisters, Elvira (Homer) Peterson, Harriett (Wayne) Hoffman, Karen (Raymond) Johnson, and Wilma (Darrell) Means; as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula. Burial will follow with military honors at Greenlawn Memory Gardens in North Kingsville Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 13, 2020 from 4-7PM at the funeral home. The family will be practicing Ohio's mask mandate due to Covid-19. If you are unable to wear a mask, please where a shield. The family would like to thank Hospice of the Wester Reserve, and a special thank you to the former staff at the Silver Sands Shared Residence for taking wonderful care of our dad until they closed.
