Please share a memory of Alex to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alex Storozuk, 99, passed away peacefully January 15, 2021 at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home where he resided for the past two months. He formerly lived in Conneaut, Dorset, and Monroe Twp. He was born May 29, 1921 in Cleveland the son of the late Makar and Josephine (Olekshuk) Storozuk, they then moved to Pierpont, Ohio a year later. Alex was a 1939 graduate of Pierpont High School where he was the class Valedictorian. He was proud that he attended 79 of 80 alumni banquets for the Buckeye Local Schools. Alex married Marguerite Pollay on April 12, 1947. Mr. Storozuk was a co-owner of Storozuk Dairy Farms with his brother Paul where they farmed 100 cattle. He retired from farming in 1972. After retirement, he and his wife took numerous trips to Canada, Western US, and Florida where they owned a home. Alex was instrumental in developing a baseball league at Monroe Elementary, where he was past PTA president, and the purchasing of playground equipment. He coached baseball in both Monroe and CLYO and held a baseball umpire’s certification for Ohio. He was a lifetime member of Ohio’s Farmer’s Union and Pierpont Volunteer Fire Department where he was involved in all fundraisers. He was also Vice President of Ohio Dairy Farmers Bargaining Association. He was an avid Conneaut Sports Fan, attending thousands of games over the years. Alex received a Sports Fan Award in 1970-1971. Mr. Storozuk was a friend of the Amish where he was known as a “Timber Jockey”. He bought and found timber for many Amish sawmills until his legs prevented the necessary walking. Many friendships were developed as a result of the timber. He and his wife hosted an annual pig roast at their home in Dorset for many years for their family and friends, creating many memories over the years. He was an avid BINGO player until diagnosed with Macular Degeneration on his 90th birthday but he continued to attend with his companion, Edna Mae, because of the friendships made at the various BINGO halls. Alex had a repertoire of jokes- some too colorful to repeat at times. People often remarked that they did not know how he could remember all of them. He was also known for his good sense of humor. When he welcomed great-grandchildren he penned GGPa and GGMa for himself and his wife so there was no confusion with grandparents. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marguerite in 2004; and brothers, Theodore “Pete” and Paul; and sister, Pauline Rish. Mr. Storozuk is survived by his daughter, Melanie Devai of Geneva; sons, Mitchell (Deborah) of Conneaut and Roger (Barbara) of Brecksville; his companion of many years, Edna Mae Allender; grandchildren, Lori, Gary, Keri, Amanda, Craig, Tyson, Brett, and Lisa; great-grandchildren, Alison, Zoe, Thayne, Zara, Gunnar, Kaelee, Cayson, Clayton, Gannon, Alexandra, Caeden, Aubrey, Gage, Dexter, James, Faith and Branden; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews in U.S. and Canada. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 12PM at the Childs-Williams-Ducro Funeral Home, 1071 SR 7, Pierpont, Ohio 44082. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11 until the time of service at 12PM. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Pierpont, Ohio. Masks are required, and social distancing will be observed. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date, when it is safe to gather in a large group. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004. Alex had two favorite sayings, “Love many, trust few, and paddle your own canoe” and “Do onto others as you want them to do onto you.” Online obituary and condolences at www.ducro.com
