Obituary of Steven Lynn Baker

Steve L. Baker Ashtabula -Steven L. Baker, age 67, passed away as a result of a short illness on February 11, 2021. He was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, the son of Clifford and Doris Baker, and had been a resident of Ashtabula since grade school. Steve was a 1972 graduate of Edgewood High School where he enjoyed choir and theatrical productions. Steve was employed at Elkem Metals for 29 years and at the Ohio Dept. of Natural Resources for 9 years until his retirement in 2014. Steve was a member of United Steelworkers of America Local 3081 and served many years as an officer of the Local Union during his years at Elkem. Steve attended East Side Presbyterian Church. Steve is survived by his wife, Judy Mackey Baker, who he married in 1987; sons Gregory (Courtney) Baker of Jefferson, Ohio; David Baker, of Ashtabula, Ohio, and was “Pops” to granddaughter, Corinne Baker, of Jefferson, Ohio. He is also survived by sisters, Trudy Salo of Liberty Twp., Ohio; Lori (Dale) Mears of Amherst, Ohio; and Debbie (Pete) Richards of Brunswick, Georgia, and many nieces and nephews. Steve was an avid golfer and played annually in the Finn Open, in honor of his father-in-law. He loved casino trips and watching the Browns, Buckeyes and Indians. Steve was a faithful fan of the Edgewood Warriors where you would see him cheering on his son Greg as he played or coached, and with his son David in the stands enjoying football and basketball games. He loved cheering on David in his Special Olympics events for many years. Most of all, Steve enjoyed spending time with Judy, his sons, daughter-in-law and granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bruce Baker. Memorial contributions can be made to Spiderweb, Inc., 266 East Erie Street, Jefferson, Ohio 44047. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30PM on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula, Ohio. Reverend John Gehring-Anders, Pastor of Eastside Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.
