Obituary of Ida Rae Karkutt Gbur

ASHTABULA – Ida Rae Karkutt Gbur, 93, of Great Lakes Avenue passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Ashtabula County Nursing Home. She was born July 19, 1927 in Huntingdon, PA, the daughter of Blair B. and Elizabeth (Jenkins) Brininger and had been an Ashtabula resident since 1946. A graduate of Warren Harding High School, she worked as a real estate agent for Miller Realty and previously as an inspector for True Temper, Saybrook Twp. Ida was a life-member and officer of the VFW Post #943 Ladies Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and spending time with her family and spending time with her dog, Zsa Zsa. Survivors include her son-in-law, James Shinault of Olympia, WA; five stepchildren; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Gbur, whom she married September 28, 2009; her brother, Blair (Joan) B. Brininger; her five children, Susan Cole, John Cole, Kathleen Shinault, William Cole, and Scott Cole; and her parents, all whom she loved dearly. Calling hours will be held from 12PM to 1PM on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at the Ducro Funeral Services, 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula immediately followed by the funeral service at 1PM. Rev. Bruce Wyand, Pastor of First Covenant Church, will officiate. A private burial with her parents will be held at Chestnut Grove Cemetery at a later date.
