Obituary of Lewis Arthur "Pookie" Pratt, Sr.

Lewis A. “Pookie” Pratt, Sr. ASHTABULA – Lewis A. “Pookie” Pratt, Sr., 88, passed away Sunday, July 11, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 4, 1932 in Eunice, WV, the son of Joe and Julia (Bernath) Pratt and had been an Ashtabula resident since 1956. A veteran of the US Army, he served during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany before being honorably discharged. He married Barbara Ann Farmer on February 7, 1956 and they spent 56 years and many wonderful times together before she passed. Prior to his retirement in 1985, he worked for the Ashtabula Township Road Department. After retirement, he enjoyed sitting in in his swing on his porch with his feet up smoking his pipe or cigar, feeding the squirrels and birds and waving to all who passed by. Known as “Paw Paw” by everyone in the neighborhood, his greatest pleasure was spending time with his family. His survivors include four children, Pamela Riffe and Tanya Anderson of Ashtabula, Dana (Madeline) Pratt of Cincinnati; and Lewis “Pete” Pratt, Jr., of Ashtabula; seven grandchildren, Chrystal (Pat) Bartone, Joseph (Crystal) Riffe, Aaron Pierson, Stephen Riffe, Joshua (Carolyn) Pratt, Katie (Wesley) Short, and Haley Jo Thompson; eight great-grandchildren, Alexsis, Abigail, Aaron, Jr., Eva, Grant, Harper, Brooklyn, and Jolene; one brother, Michael (Mari Carmen) Pratt of Boiling Springs, SC; two sisters, Doma Jean Hern of Pt. Pleasant, WV and Carmella Vegh of Maryland; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann Pratt on January 22, 2012; two children, David Allen Pratt and Sandra Jo “Love” Pratt Thompson; grandson, Blake Ryder; six brothers, Dallas , Everett “Punkin”, Manuel “Pablo” “Butch”, Vincent Hoy, Joe “Little Joe” Jr., and Charles “Pretty” Pratt; and his sister, Rovena “Mae” Lambert; and his parents. Per his request, no services will be held at this time but the family will hold a Celebration of his Life at a later date.
