Obituary of Joe Harkins

Joseph B. Harkins ASHTABULA- Joseph “Papa Joe” Bernard Harkins, 76 passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2021 Born June 12, 1945, in Painesville, he was a son of Edward B. and Dorothy (Vendi) Harkins, Sr. Joe was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Painesville, Ohio Joe and Brenda (New) Harkins were married on August 23, 1973, they celebrated forty-eight years of marriage. Their marriage was one of respect and mutual love and enjoying each other’s company. Although Joe was deaf, he never let that define who he was. He owned his own repair and handyman business. Joe was a man of many interests and hobbies; he enjoyed hunting and fishing; NASCAR, his favorite drivers were Jeff Gordon and Chase Elliott, drag racing and cheering for John Force. He was an avid Indians fan and bought scratch-off tickets and on occasion winning tickets would come his way. Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Brenda Harkins; children, William (Melissa) Potter of Ashtabula, Fabian (LeAnne) Potter of Geneva, Dianna (Tony) Santana of Ashtabula, John and Chris Harkins; grandchildren, Sean and Chelsea Harkins; siblings, Doris (Larry) Sarvis, Barbara Harkins and Terry Britnell; many nieces and nephews. His beloved K-9 companion Lady, who was always at his side. Joe was preceded in death by his sons, Shannon and Sean Harkins, grandson Damian Potter, brother, Edward Harkins, Jr., and his parents.
