Obituary of John "Jack" Simmons

John "Jack" Allen Simmons, 81, of Ashtabula passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday, September 6, 2021. He was born April 29, 1940, in Ashtabula, the son of the late Lyle and Elizabeth (Lane) Simmons.. Jack was proud of his heritage and was a direct descendant of Doc Holiday on his father’s side. He was a lifelong area resident. Jack attended Ashtabula High School and then went on to trade school to get his certificate to become a licensed electrician. Jack worked for many years for Conrail as an industrial electrician. He married Loretta Wise on October 19, 1974. Jack loved the outdoors, he enjoyed fishing and camping, and having pig roasts. Most of all he enjoyed the time he spent with his family making memories. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Loretta; his children, Laura Simmons, Theresa Simmons, Lisa (Mark) DeVito, Paula Simmons, Rena (Lon) Hrivnak, Kevin (Kimberlie) Simmons, Rosemary Simmons, and Jessica Simmons; siblings, Pat Dick, Lyle "Joe" (Nan) Simmons, Jr., Edythe Marrison, Tom Acker, Ronnie Simmons, and Greg Simmons; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his siblings, Leon (Margarita) Merritt, and Pat (Billy) Dick; brother-in-law, Jack Marrison; and his father and stepmother, Lyle and Dorothy Simmons; and mother and step father, Elizabeth and Harry Marrison. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 10, 2021, at 2PM at the Zaback-Williams-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 W. Prospect Rd., Ashtabula. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 1PM until the time of service at 2PM.
