Obituary of Ella L. Pizor
Please share a memory of Ella to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ella L. Pizor, age 93, has peacefully gone to be with Jesus. Ella was a faithful servant of God and a joy to all who knew her and loved her.
Ella had written her own obituary with all the facts: she was born in Greenville, PA to Maitland and Elsie Brown, she was married 66 years to Ray Pizor before his death and lived her life in Ashtabula, OH.
Ella and Ray were advocates of higher education and devotees of reading. Ella had her BSE from Lake Erie College and her MSE from Youngstown University. Kingsville Elementary School was where she spent her lifelong teaching career, beginning with 4th grade and retiring after 26 years as a 1st grade teacher.
She spent her life volunteering and was a member of many organizations, including Ohio Reads volunteer, Friends of the Ashtabula Public Library, Delta Kappa Gamma, Ashtabula County Retired Teachers and Storyweavers. She so loved serving as a volunteer clown under the name "Peppi" with the Hospice of the Western Reserve. Her fellow "clowns" were her very good friends. In 2005 she was awarded Ashtabula County Senior Citizen of the Year. In her earlier years, she enjoyed providing transportation for friends who were unable to drive.
As a 64-year member of First Presbyterian Church in Ashtabula, Ella had served as an elder and deacon, Sunday School teacher, VBS teacher, Presbyterian Women, and giver of Children's Sermons for more than 25 years. She organized and contributed with rummage sales and church dinners.
Ella walked daily with her two dogs and recorded more than 11,000 miles over 20 years. She enjoyed a good novel. She had crocheted over 100 afghans for family, friends, and to donate to Birthcare. The Cleveland Indians was her passion - the last several games she enjoyed attending with her son Jim and her granddaughter Melanie.
Her family members include: daughter Donna (Mike) Seiser of Canfield, OH, sons Glenn (Janet) Pizor of Virginia, Thomas (Charlotte) Pizor of Virginia, and James Pizor of Ashtabula, OH, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Nancy (Tom) Hoffacker of Pennsylvania, brothers Raymond (Carol) Brown of California, David (Dora) Brown of California, and Irvin (Flora) Brown of Texas.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Ashtabula, Friends of the Ashtabula Library, and Hospice of the Western Reserve.
Though Ella had already written her own obituary, her daughter had asked if she could add to it. Ella laughed and said, "Sure - you can tell them that I was the world's best mother!". And that was true. She had a terrific sense of humor with boundless energy. Her joyous laugh will be missed.
A celebration of her 93 years will be held at 11:00 AM on September 14 at the First Presbyterian Church of Ashtabula. Due to the increase of Covid cases, the family requests that all attending please wear a mask and strongly encourage vaccinations.
Also due to Covid, there will not be a luncheon after the memorial service - even though Ella loved being with loved ones to have a good meal.
