Obituary of Carol Johnson

Carol A. Johnson, 75, of Ashtabula, passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at ACMC. Ms. Johnson spent her first 30 years in Ashtabula, graduating in 1963 from Harbor High School. She obtained her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Kent State University. From 1973 to 1976, she worked in the Social Services Department at Ashtabula General Hospital. In 1976, she moved to Youngstown, where she spent three years working at the Health Systems Agency of Eastern Ohio. She moved with her husband, Ronald Bundy, to Milwaukee, WI in 1979, where she spent the next 30 years working as a planner and researcher at the Planning Council for Health and Human Services. Ms. Johnson wrote a book, Self-Esteem Comes In All Sizes, which was published in 1995 by Doubleday Books. She was a member of the North American Association for the Study of Obesity (now the Obesity Society) and fought against size discrimination. Since moving back to Ashtabula in 2009, she had been active in the Ashtabula Downtown Development Association, serving for a time as secretary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron, in 2006; her mother, Bernice K. Johnson, in 2004; and her father, R. Donald Johnson in 1973. Left to cherish her memories is her loving partner, Vernon Ganyard of Ashtabula; nephew, George Bundy of San Francisco; niece, Lisa Bundy of Niles; special friends, Amy Ganyard Garlisi, Glory and Libby Kinnunen, all of Madison; as well as many wonderful cousins and friends. A graveside service will be held at 11AM on Friday, July 29, 2022, at Edgewood Cemetery, 4011 State Rd, Ashtabula, with The Rev. Dr. Michael Meranda officiating.
