Helen "Midge" Malcolm (Coburn)
Helen "Midge" Malcolm (Coburn), age 68, of Ashtabula passed away Saturday, November 20, 2021.
Midge was born in Youngstown on February 27, 1953, to Richard and Bettie Coburn (now deceased). She grew up in Canfield and Kingsville, graduated from Edgewood High School in 1971 and lived in Ashtabula for over 45 years. She spent many years working for Ashtabula Area City Schools and had fond memories of working at West Junior High and at other local schools as a lunch aide and teacher's aide. She also spent many summers working at Sheldon Calvary Camp.
She is survived by her loving husband and companion James Stiltner and her children Sarah (Earl Clausson) Malcolm and D. Robert (Sheryl Berman) Malcolm and stepchildren Robin Stiltner, James (Stacie Lily) Stiltner, and Johnny Stilner. She leaves behind many step grandchildren and beloved granddaughter, Lenora; siblings Hod Coburn; Rick Coburn; and Janet Coburn; nephews Chad (Danielle) Painter; Adam (Heather) Painter; Chris (Nadia) Coburn; niece Caity Coburn; special cousin Ginger; and dear friends Jan and Terri. She was fortunate enough to have time to spend with Chris's sons, Colton and Wyatt; whom she considered her own grandchildren.
Midge enjoyed taking road trips with her husband, especially along the Blue Ridge Parkway, as well as spending long days on the lake and reading. Her summers spent in the Upper Peninsula Michigan were among her fondest memories. She was a talented crochet artist and often created elaborately designed afghans for friends and family. She loved her family but most of all she loved children. The many children who were in her life through her family and work brought her years of joy. She often remembered old acquaintances and students and was genuinely delighted to run into them years later.
Midge spent her final days at the Country Club Nursing Home which she referred to as home. She made many friends there and had a special appreciation for Momo. She and her family were grateful for the excellent care she received over the years from Dr. Choi, ACMC's Skilled Nursing Unit, Country Club Nursing Home and Western Reserve Hospice. She talked fondly of the many staff, nurses, aides, and physical therapists who helped her over the years.
As Midge loved children, please consider a donation to a children's charity of your choice in her honor.
