ASHTABULA - Elizabeth Marie Martello, 96, of Lake Road West died Friday, November 26, 2021 at her son Sam's home in Westlake. She was born March 10, 1925, the daughter of John and Alma (Hudi) Beer and had been a lifelong Ashtabula resident. On June 19, 1948, she married the love of her life, Joseph J. Martello and together they shared many wonderful adventures together until his passing in 2007. A 1944 graduate of Ashtabula High School, she worked for a short while as a reporter for the Star Beacon. She later went back to school and graduated from Kent State University Ashtabula with an Associate's Degree and worked 15 years as a teacher's aide with the Ashtabula Area City Schools. She also offered support to her husband at the family business, Martell Cleaners, when needed. Family was everything to Bette. She enjoyed attending her son's and grandson's football games- inclement weather or not. In addition, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, visiting wineries with friends and family, and visits with family and friends at camp in Lake Washagami, Canada. Her survivors include seven children, Amy (Jake) Rose of Ashtabula, Mary (Eric) Osetek of Philadelphia, Beth Martello of San Francisco, George (Kim) Martello of N. Kingsville, Joseph J. (Janine) Martello, II of Orinda, CA, Sam (Tracy) Martello of Westlake, and Dan Martello of Cleveland; and 11 grandchildren, Sarah Rose, Rachael Gladstone, Andrew and Meredith Matzkin, Joe III, John, Sam, Jack, and Grace Martello, and Matthew and Andrew Widlits; She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law Becca Martello in 2018; sister, Margaret Rinto in 1992; and her parents. Calling hours will be held from 5-8PM on Friday, March 11, 2022 at the Zaback-Williams-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 AM Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Our Lady of Peace, Mt. Carmel Church, 1200 East 21st St., Ashtabula. Fr. Raymond Thomas, Pastor will preside. Special thanks to the many friends and neighbors who took great care of Bette over the years.
