ASHTABULA – V. Mae Stewart, 86, of Vineland Avenue died Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born July 13, 1935, in Morehead, Kentucky, the daughter of Pierce and Lina Pearl (Fultz) Cogswell and had been an Ashtabula resident since 1945.
On December 9, 1970, she married Robert Stewart and together they shared 46 wonderful years and many adventures.
A devoted member of Pentecostal Church of God, she loved her church and its’ congregation dearly. Mae also volunteered many hours of her time to the church and to Special Olympics.
Mrs. Stewart loved flowers, gardening, cooking, baking, and sharing her baked goodies, especially her famous fudge with many friends and family. She was also an avid follower of the Cleveland Indians and loved watching the games at home or on the road.
Her survivors include children, Terry (Janet) Markwell of Middlefield, and Robert F. “Bobby” Stewart, Jr. of Ashtabula; stepson, S. Scot Stewart-Cropek of Oklahoma; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Dottie Cogswell of Ashtabula; brother, Bill Cogswell of Rock Springs, Wyoming; dear nephews, Tom (Janet) and Rick (Char) Cunningham both of Rock Springs, Wyoming and Dennis (Joanne) Murphy of Ashtabula; and a special niece Sherri (Howard) Starr of Ashtabula, whom she loved like a daughter.
Mae was so appreciative and grateful for the love, and care her dear son, Bobby, provided for her. His companionship and support allowed her to remain at home until her final days. Mae also cherished her daily phone calls with her younger sister, Dottie, whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Fred Stewart on May 15, 2017; daughter, Linda Krenisky; brothers, Curtis Cogswell and Chuck Cogswell; sister, Helen Sue Phelps; and her parents.
