Obituary of Kristy Ann Bennett

ASHTABULA – Kristy Ann Bennett, 43, passed away Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Ashtabula County Medical Center. She was born September 2, 1978 in Conneaut, the daughter of George and Bonnie (Scharff) Smith and had been a lifelong Ashtabula County resident, living in Andover for the past 10 years. A 1997 graduate of Ashtabula High School, she took several classes at Kent State Ashtabula. She worked as a cook for the Ashtabula County Sheriff's Department and with her mother at Legally Sweet in Jefferson. Kristy loved to organize a party! She was in charge of the kids family Easter Egg hunts for years and was always laughing and cheerful, looking to lift up others when they were feeling down. Always caring for people, she enjoyed baking and making knot blankets – many of which she had gifted to family and friends over years. She loved Christmas and enjoyed camping, karaoke, baking, and horses and was active in 4-H for much of her life. Her survivors include her husband, E.J. Bennett, whom she married June 11, 2011; two sons, Wayde Leonard of Ashtabula and Layne (finance' Rachel) Leonard of Newton Falls; two grandchildren, Wyatt Leonard II and Nathen Leonard; her parents, George and Bonnie Smith of Ashtabula; one sister, Mauri Smith (Pastor Scottie Smith) of Jefferson; one brother, George (Rebecca) Smith of Dorset; nephews and nieces, Douglas, Garhett, Joshua (Sadie), Devan, Jack, Jade, Jackson, and Addilyn; great-nieces, Camia and Aubrey; and her precious pets, Baby, Hank, and Squeaker. She was preceded in death by a son, Wyatt Leonard in infancy. Calling hours will be held Thursday, December 23, 2021 from 5-7PM with a service at 7PM at the Conneaut Community Church, 248 Buffalo St., Conneaut. Her brother-in-law, Pastor Scottie Smith of Conneaut Community Church, will officiate assisted by Fr. John Ettinger of St. Joseph Calasanctius Church, Jefferson.
