Obituary of Frances L. Smith

Frances L. Smith, 81, of Ashtabula passed away peacefully, Thursday, December 30, 2021, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home. She was born October 29, 1940, in Cook Co., IL the daughter of the late Frank and Marie (Carpenter) Short. Frances married the love of her life Ernest G. Smith on May 30, 1963. Frances worked for many years as a bartender at the Flamingo and at Dee Gees in Ashtabula. Frances enjoyed puzzles, playing cards, and reading, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by her children, Richard (Eva) Fronk of Jackson, MI, Pamela Bratcher of Ashtabula, Frank (Rebecca) Fronk of Roaming Shores, Ernest D. Smith of Nashville, GA, and Laura Sungenis of Pennsylvania; sister, Kathy Farmer; grandchildren, Jacob Fronk, Frances (Jared Toth) Taylor, Laura Bratcher, Terry "T.J." (Beth Honkonen) Bratcher, Donald Hunchuck, Amber (Jeffrey)Boyd, Ernest Smith Jr., Erica Smith, and Wendy Vandeberg; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandchild on the way in February. Frances was preceded in death by her husband Ernest in 2000; son, Edward Fronk; son-in-law, Terry Bratcher; grandson, Richard Bratcher; granddaughter, Candice Zalameni; siblings, Frank "Bud" Short, Keith Short, Cindy Butt, and Juanita "Nita" Willett. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 11AM at the Zaback-Williams-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 W. Prospect Rd., Ashtabula, family friend Richard Laferty officiating. Inurnment will follow at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Ashtabula. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5-7PM at the funeral home.
