Obituary of Brenda Carroll Harkins

ASHTABULA-Brenda Carroll Harkins, 76, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022, at Saybrook Landing. Born February 11, 1945, in Carrollton, KY, she was a daughter of the late James and Margaret (Roberts) New. Married on August 23, 1973, Brenda was the beloved wife of the late Joseph “Papa Joe” B. Harkins and at the time of his passing in July of 2021, they had celebrated their forty-eighth year of marriage. Their marriage was one of respect and mutual love and enjoyed each other’s company. Brenda had many interests and hobbies; she was an avid rook and rummy card player, enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, found joy in painting, and she was a dedicated fan of the rock band, Areosmith. Left to cherish her memories are her children, William (Melissa) Potter of Ashtabula, Fabian (LeAnne) Potter of Geneva, Dianna (Tony) Santana of Ashtabula, John, and Chris Harkins; grandchildren, Sean and Chelsea Harkins and many other grandchildren; siblings, John New of Geneva, and Nancy Pettit of Painesville; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Harkins, sons, Shannon and Sean Harkins, grandson Damian Potter, her brother, Billy New, and her parents. Calling hours will be held from 5PM-7PM on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula. Funeral services will begin at 11:30AM on Friday, January 21, 2022, at Greenlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, North Kingsville. Burial will follow.
