Obituary of William Thomas Shaughnessy

ASHTABULA – William Thomas Shaughnessy, 94, of Lake Road West passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home. He was born in Hartsgrove, the son of William and Louise (Kammiller) Shaughnessy. Prior to his retirement, he worked 47 years as an agent for the Prudential Life Insurance Company. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served during World War II as an aviation storekeeper. Mr. Shaughnessy was a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table; the highest standard in the life insurance industry, volunteered for St. Vincent De Paul Society, and was a Eucharistic minister for St. Joseph Church. He is survived by daughters, Colleen (Dr. Mark) Lisch, Dr. Eileen (Gerald) Leininger, Catherine O’Shaughnessy (Dr. Franz Kurfess), Mary Ellen Hamilton, Roseann (Neil) Biederman; sons, Terrence (Noreen), Timothy (Senni), and Patrick Shaughnessy; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Geraldine (Corrigan) Shaughnessy; son, William Shaughnessy; brothers, Joseph, Edward, Oliver and Franklyn Sipos; sisters, Rosalie Snodgrass and Ellen Fashimpaur, and his parents. A memorial mass will be held Monday, February 7, 2022, at 1:00PM on at St. Joseph’s Church, 3312 Lake Avenue, Ashtabula. Military honors will be performed by American Legion Post #103, following the mass. Inurnment will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Thompson, Ohio. Facial coverings and social distancing will be required. The memorial mass will be livestreamed on the Ducro Services Facebook page. A celebration of life is being planned for this summer.
