William P. Murphy ASHTABULA- William Paul Murphy, 77 passed away on Monday February 14, 2022, while a patient at ACMC. The son of David and Arlene (Brockhurst) Murphy Bill was born on June 21, 1944, in Ashtabula, where he remained a lifelong area resident. A graduate of Ashtabula High School he attended Kent State University. Bill was a veteran of the United States Army having served in Korea from 1966 to 1968; receiving his honorable discharge; Bill returned to Ashtabula. Returning to work next to his dad, David Murphy, Sr., at the Swedish Bakery. Before joining the service, he and his brother, David, Jr., worked side by side with their father. Bill was an excellent pastry chef and baker. His pastries were in high demand and his holiday cookies were very popular. Although Bill worked many hours serving the community, he found time for love. On February 19, 1994, he married Carleita “Carly” Woodruff. They had a marriage built on mutual respect and love. Bill’s heart was broken when on January 28, 2008, Carly passed away. For fourteen years they shared time in the bakery, at home and on their travels. Bill tried to retire; but that did not work, although the bakery was not open for regular hours; he would make special orders if asked; he could never say no. For several years he and his friends, John and Peter would make holiday cookies. Bill was an active member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, he enjoyed being able to participate in the work of the church. He attended until his health no longer permitted. Bill was not all work, he belonged to Rising Sun # 220 Masonic Lodge, Caliph Grotto and the E.A.C., where enjoyed meeting his friends and watching the Indians on television. He, John and Peter were best friends enjoying each other’s company and helping with community projects around town. Bill loved being with his daughters and grandson, enjoying Christmas in Nashville; traveling to Phoenix to soak up the sun. Also traveling to Florida to see his brother, David. Bill is survived by his daughters, Julie (Zach Stine) Murphy of Phoenix, AZ and Dawn (Jeff) Johnson and their son, Aidan of Nashville, TN; brother, David (Judith) Murphy, Jr. of Tallahassee, Fl; the mother of his daughters, Linda Cole. Bill was preceded in death by his wife Carly and his parents. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00AM Friday, February 18, 2022, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 4901 Main Street, Ashtabula, Ohio, 44004.The Rev. Peter W. Nielsen, III, Rector presiding. Burial in Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Ashtabula, Ohio. Military Honors rendered by Dewey Howlett Post #103.
