Barbara S. Rood Gainesville Texas- Barbara Sue Rood, 79 was called home to heaven on Wednesday, March 2, 2022. Barbara was born on July 28, 1942, in Winifred, Kentucky, the daughter of Estil and Mary (Slone) Ratliff. Barbara received and Associates Degree in Dietary Management and worked at several long-term care nursing homes, retiring from Ashtabula County Nursing and Rehabilitation after many years of dedicated service. Barbara and Clark Rood were together forty-eight years before his passing in 2013. They enjoyed being together and created many memories along the way. These memories sustained Barbara through the years after Clark’s passing. Barbara was an active member of the Church of the Living God; she played piano and sang. She moved to Texas to live with her daughter, and she spoke fondly of those times spent in church. Barbara loved music, whether she was playing, singing or dancing a day never went by without music in her home. Barbara enjoyed square and line dancing and won several line dancing trophies for her efforts. When she lived in the “Towers” Barbara was constantly caring for others, it gave her life meaning and purpose. Barbara’s family was her heart, she encouraged and supported them during hard times rejoiced with them in their triumphs. Her smile could make your day! Barbara is survived by her children, Donald (Marge)Rood, Mark (Debbie) Rood, Edward (Elizabeth) Rood, Patricia (Michael) Chaney; nineteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Phyllis (James) Torrance, Patsy (Wayne) Hammond, Juanita Newman and Donald (Sherri) Ratliff; many loving nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews; brother-in-law, Phil Flinchum. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Clark; great grandchild; sisters, Emma Jean Candella and Frances Flinchum and her parents. Graveside services will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at South Demark Cemetery with Rev. Robert Falke officiating.
