Obituary of Harland K Nordquest

Harland Keith Nordquest, 78, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, April 4, 2022. He was born August 18, 1943, in Ashtabula, the son of the late Harmon and Clara (Lorentzen) Nordquest. A lifelong area resident, Harland graduated from Harbor High School. After high school, he honorably served in the United States Coast Guard from 1964-1968. After returning from the service, Harland worked for several companies over the years. Harland was well known in the retail hardware business. He worked in hardware most of his life; starting as a teenager at Dudley’s Hardware which was run by his father. Later, he worked at Payne’s Hardware, Shick’s True Value Hardware, before settling in at Topky Hardware for many years. Most recently he worked at A. Louis Supply, retiring from there in 2005. Harland was a member of the former Second Congregational Church. He was an avid collector of coins, mugs, watches, and Lake Freighter memorabilia. Most of all he enjoyed being at home. He is survived by several nieces and nephews; Nephew Kim Nordquest and wife Norma (Fairchild) of Ashtabula; Niece, Kathy (Nordquest) Hay and husband Kent Hay of La Veta, Colorado; Nephew, Marc Nordquest and wife Mary Jane (Pasha) of Ashtabula; Nephew, Kurt Nordquest and wife Kathleen (Mayer) of Ashtabula; Niece, Mary (Nordquest) Schroeder and husband Edward of Ashtabula; Niece, Diane (Rinehart) Freelander and husband Arnie of Powder Springs, GA; Nephew, Gary Rinehart and wife Linda of San Diego, CA. Harland was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard and Leslie Nordquest; sisters, Corrine Harrer and Juanita Rinehart; nephew, Jim Rinehart of Sacramento, CA; and his parents. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at 2PM at Edgewood Cemetery, State Road., Ashtabula, with Reverend Dr. Michael Meranda, officiating.
